Abstract

There is dollarization when a foreign current is adopted, usually Dollar, living aside the existing national currency. Given the importance of this topic and its recent and acknowledge concept, this research presents a bibliographic review about main studies which analyze dollarization. Additionally, the causes, types and effects generated in this kind of processes are analyzed. The authors agree that dollarization has been traditionally adopted to solve macroeconomic unbalances presented in the economies, such as, inflationary outbreaks exchange rates movements, fiscal and current account unbalances, and unemployment, among others.
